Employee Spotlight: Cheryl Taylor

May 09, 2014

Cheryl Taylor may not have realized when she answered the ad in the paper that she would see wfla through two decades! Lucky for us, the diversity of her job has kept her interested and challenged for the last 20½ years. Cheryl enjoys the great working atmosphere and benefits that wfla has to offer. As a New Business Specialist, Cheryl receives, reviews, and processes new Life/Annuity applications. She issues certificates and processes change requests, expirations, and monthly reinsurance billings. Cheryl took some time to answer a few questions so more people could get to know the Cheryl we love.
Where did you grow up? Mostly Central City, IA until 6th grade, then Cedar Rapids, IA for a while, and back to Central City, where I am today.

cheryl_cropped2.jpgWhat were your hobbies as a child? Raising rabbits and raising and riding horses. We had our own horses, but we also bred them, raised, and trained them to sell as part of our family income. We also boarded horses.

What are your hobbies now? Playing with my grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening, occasionally playing the accordion, and camping.

How many children and grandchildren do you have? I have four children, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

What inspires you? God, then family, then friends.

What kind of music do you like? Easy listening, country, and rock.

What is your favorite movie and why? Gone with the Wind – it’s amazing!

Share something you think people would be surprised to know about you: I had a truck garden and sold lots of vegetables. I raised calves and pigs and had a pet bull when my kids were little. I play and have taught the accordion. In 1969, the Accordion Aces performed on the David Frost late night show in New York. In 1970, I got to travel to the World Fair in Japan to perform with the Accordion Aces; it was my first time flying in an airplane. Image

What important lessons have you learned from your many years at wfla? Stop and think before you answer!! All requests are important, take the time to try and do the job right the first time.

Cheryl is an exemplary employee and a wonderful friend. She always has a smile on her face and a friendly word to share. Customers and colleagues look forward to working with her. Here’s to 20 more years Cheryl!
