Members hosted a Box Lunch Social to support the repair and renovation of the 1870's Rock School House.
Western No. 84 and School District #32 hosted a Box Lunch Social on Labor Day at the Rock School House site South of Table Rock.
There was a contest for best decorated box won by Terra Blecha. Lunches were auctioned off to the highest bidder. The group enjoyed kolache made by Sput Turnbull and Czech crescents made by Elsie Tomek. Stories of the old days were shared and Larry Blecha entertained the group with his accordion music. The kids played games in the adjacent prairie.
After lunch, both young and old enjoyed a hayrack ride past the pioneer wagon trail ruts and the old quarry where the stones for the school were cut from the hill by hand. Guests enjoyed visiting and finished the afternoon with root beer floats.
District #32 alumni and Western members Rudy Fritch Jr., Dorothy Fritch, Edward, Milan, and George Tomek, and Joe Stehlik were present. Other members attending were Velma Willet, Leona Pepper, Erin Dyas, Elsie Tomek, Neveah and Taelah Blecha, Howard and Deb Blecha, and Jim Blecha. Proceeds from the day will go to the renovation of the school building.
Western Fraternal Life’s Community Matching Funds program provides additional income for lodges that see a need in their community and host/co-host a fundraiser to help raise money for that need. Each Director has $500 per year to give away at their discretion for their district. At least six lodge members must be involved in the event and the event must raise a minimum of $1,000. If you have a need in your community and would like to apply for a matching grant, please contact your Director or Member Programs Manager Kelsey Logan at the Home Office (877-935-2467).
