|Learning about circuits.||Students enjoying a science evening.|
Because of the Members in Action grant, two students with a passion for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) helped form a new group in our community for youth who love STEM as well. It is called the New Prague Newtonian Science Club, and it will be led by Anna and Brian Prchal, with guidance from their mom Jodi Prchal (a teacher in the district).
With the help of materials provided by Western, 40 youth were able to experience an evening of fun, engaging, hands on activities, such as using circuits, creating a cloud in a bottle, playing Science Trivial Pursuit, mixing ingredients to cause a reaction to inflate a balloon, and much more! Students were enlightened to learn the "how" and "why" behind the activities as well.

To continue this love of STEM, the youth have taken on a service project called Suitcase Science. The youth will fill donated suitcases with the materials Western provided for their night of fun. They will take them to our preschool and before and afterschool program teachers so that they can spread the wonder and love of STEM to even more youth! Parents were very appreciative of the free evening of entertainment and learning for their child, and the community education teachers are excited to receive their Suitcase Science gift! There was such a good response to the program that the new club will be meeting monthly with guidance from the Prchals. Thank you to Western Fraternal Life for this grant!
