Our deepest sympathy goes to the family of Bradner R. Gilson, who passed away on May 19, 2016 in Topeka, KS.
Brad began his insurance career in 1965, and started at Western in 1979. Over his 37 years of loyalty with Western, he placed over 3,300 policies and had over $47 million of business inforce. Brad won numerous awards repeatedly throughout his career: the President’s Cabinet, President’s Club, the Century Club, and the Golden Quill Award. He was on the Pre-Convention committee and was instrumental in saving lodge 85.
Brad’s focus was on taking good care of the customer. He regularly sent out birthday cards and letters, and was willing to talk to anyone, anywhere. He attended to customers in numerous states over the years, and would do anything for them. Once he even climbed a ladder in a Piggly Wiggly store to reach an office because the stairs were closed. He wrote applications on tractor fenders or picnic tables; anywhere that was convenient for the customer.
He loved travel, trains, and sports, and was thrilled the Kansas City Royals won the World Series last year. He enjoyed being an umpire and referee. He was proud to be a veteran who served in the U.S. Army as a code translator during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Brad married Judy Caroline (Bush) Gilson in Decorah, IA on July 14, 1978. He always said how lucky he was; she was his best friend. Brad and Judy have three children, Heather Webb, Matt Schutte, and Bob Larsen. He loved his family beyond anything. Brad had a good sense of humor and loved to laugh, tell stories, and talk to people.
He will be greatly missed.
