On April 2, Lipany No. 56 of Lynch, NE, held a Spring Tea. For the last 17 years, they have held themed tea parties. This year's theme was school memories. Tables were decorated with school supplies, old books, and autograph books.
About 30 members and guests brought photos of their school day memories. They passed around momentos and shared memories of their school days.
The attendees all enjoy the opportunity for a day out. The lodge started sponsoring the event because in the past a female pastor did a similar event, but after she left the area, the lodge decided to do it. Over the years, attendance has grown. Members of the Red Hat Society from the neighboring town make it one of their events. "It makes us feel good to know we are making a place for friends to gather," said Secretary Tracy Nelson.
The members find recipes to serve at lunch as well as decorations that go along with the theme chosen each time. The lodge also buys a small token for each guest to place at their seat so that everyone gets something to take home.
They have tea events at various times of the year, and the tastes have evolved too. Many guests prefer apple cider, punch, and coffee to actual tea. The lodge typically puts signs around town and a notice in the local paper when they are having an event so that newcomers know that they are welcome.
