Fallen servicemen were honored in a special program on Father's Day at the Masonic Hall in Jennings, KS. This was organized by Cesti Vlastenci No. 153 and the Jennings Historic Building Preservation Committee. Volunteers helped by serving dinner at the event to 150 people. Guests enjoyed roast beef, potatoes, gravy, vegetables, homemade bread, salads, and desserts prior to the program.
No. 153 utilized the Members in Action program to buy t-shirts, banners, advertising, meat, and potatoes. The event was an excellent opportunity for 10 of the lodge members to work with approximately 20 volunteers from the Sons of the American Legion.
The program featured guest speakers Margaret Gartrell (sister of Robert Stephens), Mike Helm, Past American Legion National Commander, and COL (Ret.) Gordon Kuntz. It honored the late Robert DeWayne Stephens, a veteran of the Korean War who grew up in Jennings. He was a prisoner of war for one year, with his death following. His remains are still missing with North Korean officials refusing to negotiate their release.
