Former Board of Directors Member Larry Vilda Remembered

Untitled-4.jpgFormer Board of Director Larry Vilda, 77, of Lincoln, NE, died April 10, 2017, at his home. Funeral and memorial services were held April 17, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Lincoln, NE.

Larry was born August 4, 1939 in Wilber, NE, the son of Otto and Albina Vilda. He graduated from Wilber High School and worked for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads and Striping Crew. Larry married Joann Jisa on April 29, 1961 in Bruno, NE. Later, he worked for Goodyear as a master painter and retired after 30 years of service in 1997. Larry was a 50-year member of Lodge No. 426, Lincoln, NE and served as lodge President for 18 years. He was on the pre-Convention Committee for 12 years and served on the Board of Directors for 16 years until his retirement in 2007. Larry was a member of Sokol Wilber and Sokol South Omaha for many years as well. 

Larry loved animals, especially his granddogs, Jacie, Sammi, and Jager, and enjoyed riding his bicycle for the BRAN (Bike Ride Across Nebraska). He was proud of his Czech heritage and enjoyed sharing stories of his native Czech Republic, or spreading cheer with a joke or two. Larry also honored his past by playing the French horn in the Wilber Alumni Band at Czech Days for over 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Joann Vilda of Lincoln, NE; son, Jerry Vilda of Lincoln, NE; daughters, Jeanette of Lincoln, NE and Paula of Olathe, KS; grandchildren, Amber and Jason Bissell of Lincoln, NE and Nicole Brown and Dillon Blackburn of Wahoo, NE; great-grandchildren, Ella, Sage, and Cole; sisters, Mary Heidecker of Beatrice, NE and Carol Hagan of Wilber, NE.
