Annual Report From the Vice President, Information Technology and Secretary

Mar 01, 2019

It is an honor and a pleasure to report to you on behalf of the Administration Department.

The Association continues to operate in 18 states with 111 lodges and 35,809 members.

We congratulate the 630 members who will be recognized by their lodges during the year for attaining 50 and 75-years of membership. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to Western Fraternal Life! You all have helped make Western who we are today.

We are rapidly approaching the 2019 National Convention being held July 18-19 in Green Bay, WI. The National Convention Delegates and Alternates Election Form must be received by the Home Office no later than April 15 for your lodge to be represented by your elected delegates at the Convention. As President Craig Van Dyke stated in his letter in the January Fraternal Herald, the Convention will include a new session with panel discussions covering topics to help our lodges with ideas for new projects and how to improve current projects. The panels will include fraternalists from other societies and other leading figures in the fraternal industry. The Convention will also include a Youth Summit and community service project as was done in 2015.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, Management Team, and the entire staff, I applaud all of the lodges that received an award as a result of the activities and charitable donations by your lodge in 2018. You and your lodges have continued to come up with new ideas to improve the quality of your activities and create new projects. As a result of these activities, 19 lodges were awarded the highest level Shining Star Award, 8 lodges received the Five Star Award, 12 the Four Star, 17 the Three Star, 17 the Two Star, and 8 the One Star. We hope you continue to build upon the successes of last year and strive to enhance what you accomplished in 2018. The Board of Directors feel the Lodge Award System continues to meet the goals set forth and will re-evaluate the system each year for any changes and enhancements needed to fulfill these goals.

Being a fraternal benefit society affords us the opportunity to provide additional benefits to our members that other life insurance companies do not provide. In 2018, we provided almost $50,000 directly to members in need through various programs. Western also provided $130,000 to our lodges to use in support of their members and the communities in which you live and work in a manner you see as best helping your communities. In total, over $330,000 was spent on member benefits.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the agents that have written business with us this past year. A special congratulations goes out to the award winners highlighted in the February Fraternal Herald. You are a large part of who we are and have brought us the new members and premium dollars needed to support both the life insurance and fraternal sides of our organization.

Each year, I need to thank the dedicated, hard-working staff in the Home Office. The staff is committed to providing excellent service to our members. Four staff members celebrated special anniversaries in 2018: New Business Specialist Cheryl Taylor – 25 years, IT Support Specialist Chris Schantz – 15 years, Member Benefits Coordinator Darcy Hilton - 10 years, and Receptionist Becky Kramer – 10 years. Congratulations on your milestone anniversaries. Together, we all strive to “Enrich Today and Insure Tomorrow.”

Fraternally,
