Community Gatherings Aided by Members in Action

Jun 04, 2019

Members in Action is a member benefit of Western Fraternal Life that funds the supplies, professional services, and promotional items needed to hold successful community events. Recently, the following events were aided by the use of this benefit.

Steak and Hamburger Feed, Dorchester, NE

The Dorchester (NE) Community Foundation Fund held its annual Steak and Hamburger Feed on March 16. Over 350 people enjoyed ribeyes and hamburgers.
The event helped raise money for a splash pad in the community. Construction is planned to start this summer.

Charcoal and food supplies for the Steak and Hamburger Feed were paid for, in part, by the Members in Action benefit offered by Western. Members of No. 389, Western, NE, and No. 74, Dorchester, NE organized the application and helped make the event a success. Roughly 40 members were involved in everything from pre-event promotional flyers to grilling and clean up.

“We sponsor several events throughout the year to promote Dorchester, NE, such as the annual ice cream social, golf tournament, and chicken feed. We have several members of the Foundation who are active in No. 74 in Dorchester, NE and No. 389 in Western, NE,” commented Dorchester Community Foundation chairman Dale Hayek. He further expressed thanks to Western for its help through the Members in Action program.

Casino Bus Trip, Owatonna, MN

Members of No. 127, Owatonna, MN have organized an annual bus trip to the casino for many years. The trip is an opportunity for members and non-members to have a great time and promote fraternalism. They also hold raffles that benefit the lodge scholarship during the trip.

This year, No. 127 used Members in Action to help promote the event and to cover the cost of some supplies. The bus rental itself, eating, tour, and party room are part of those costs. They used flyers and other kinds of advertisement to let the community know that they could sign up for the trip. This is a good way to get the word out about what the lodge is all about. People who come on the trip get a chance to have fun socializing with members, and may decide to become a member themselves.

No. 127 member Debbie Burnham stated, “Everyone had a wonderful time and they are anxious for next year's trip.”
