Success! Members in Action Helps Out Local Events

Jan 02, 2020

Members in Action is a benefit from Western that funds the supplies, services, and promotional materials that members need to make member community events a success. This year, members were creative in hosting events that were fun for many people. In most cases, it was not only a chance to get together, but a chance to make a difference by promoting good causes.

Run to Rescue

Member Connie Johnson applied for Members in Action to aide Run to Rescue on August 10 at Czechland Lake in Prague, NE. Run to Rescue is a fun run for all ages, down the old railroad track going all the way to the ghost town of Rescue, NE.

There is a 1 mile, 5K, and 9 mile run or walk. Afterward, everyone was treated to kolache, water or Gatorade, bananas, and oranges, and were entered into a prize drawing. There were over 400 runners. The Prague Volunteer Fire Department provided support during the event and proceeds were given to the Prague Rescue Squad to purchase future equipment.

Members in Action sponsored promotional event ads in local publications.

The South Central Nebraska Czech Festival was held in Hastings, NE on June 1. Members of No. 389, Western, NE applied for Members in Action in order to make the community event a success.

No. 389's YELL! group set-up a table representing the lodge with goodie bags and Czech sheets. There was Polka music, a bake sale, vendors, demonstrations, and a Czech meal.

The YELL! group loves volunteering at these Czech festivals because they get to promote Czech heritage while enjoying activities and tasty food. More information about the festival was included in the December 2019 issue of the Fraternal Herald.

Members in Action funds paid for ad spots on the All Star Polka Show, Western promotional items, and food for the meal.

Members wore their Western shirts and YELL! members helped out at the bake sale, kids corner, and served pizza. The festival also included music, a pin ceremony for 50 and 75-year members, Czech food, and silent auction. More information about the festival was included in the December 2019 issue of the Fraternal Herald.
