Members held their annual bake and craft sale at the Northland Threshing Bee in September. Our YELL! group had a fundraiser the same day and donated the money they raised to our lodge treasurer. A short meeting was held at the sale.
We ordered a Western banner to use at our activities.
Congratulations to two of our YELL! members, Brooke and Jake Fredrickson, for placing in Western’s Art Contest.
Members were given new shirts with the Western logo.
We entertained and served lunch at the Greenbush Care Center this month.
Members met at the hall for our annual Memorial Day picnic on May 28. Some of the YELL! members came early and helped clean the hall and prepare the tables for our meal.
The State Meeting was held in Hopkins on June 23. Members were encouraged to attend and the lodge paid registration.
A monetary gift was accepted by the lodge from the Burda family in memory of Frank. We are grateful for the donation.
Members helped clean at the cemetery this past week. Vivian Peterson has been selling poppies for the VFW. Marcella Gust donated items to the Violence Intervention. Other members have been donating time to their local churches to make quilts. Can tabs were collected.
Vice President Jodi Davey presented 50-year pins to Tony and Marcella Gust.
Prayers were asked for members in need.
Musical entertainment was supplied by the Ellefson family. We honored members of our lodge who had served in the military, including Tony Gust, Ron Johnson, Ted Kruta, Joe Burian, and Wes Pesek.
Members helped serve at a local auction sale in June.
Members met after the District Meeting on April 14. We decided to make May baskets for the residents at the Group Home in Thief River Falls for Join Hands Day. The YELL! members will meet and put the baskets together with donations from members.
Thank you to the members who donated bars and ice cream for residents at Green Leaf Senior Center last week, and to Cathy for the lively Polka music.
Donation ideas for the year were discussed. Next meeting will be after our ditch cleaning in a couple weeks, weather permitting.
Members held their annual appreciation banquet on November 19 at the Nordheim Café, with a short meeting afterward.
We planned to do giving tree donations to three local banks.
Thank-you cards were read from Valley and Oakcrest Nursing Homes to the YELL! group for the donation of candy for Halloween.
YELL! members passed out prizes. Joy and Marcella Gust celebrated birthdays.
Members have been busy visiting nursing homes, serving lunches, and playing Bingo at care centers. We helped with church suppers, furnished food, and worked at a funeral.
We are asking members to bring ideas to the next meeting for 2018 donations.
We held our annual bake and craft sale at the Threshing Bee on September 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There was a huge turnout of members who donated items and worked throughout the day. We have applied for Matching Funds to be donated to the new Sunshine House that is being built in Grand Forks.
For the youth giveaway this year, we purchased two $50 gift certificates to Walmart. Our YELL! group manned a booth and the money they collected was donated back to our local lodge for the scholarship fund.
Members met August 18. Thank-you cards were read from the family of Dorothy Didrickson for the memorial, from the Care Center for the Bingo party, and from the State Scholarship Committee.
We entertained at Life Care Manor for their appreciation dinner. Members collected school supplies for the local banks. YELL! members and adults helped with kid’s week.

The bake and craft sale was September 10 at Northland Threshing Bee. We gave away two gift cards to youth. The YELL! group was busy at the Threshing Bee. They had a candy shop with treats that proceeds were donated back to the lodge, they drove tractors in the parade, pitched straw for the threshing machines, and worked in a blacksmith shop. A great afternoon full of history, learning, and fun!
No. 219 held a short meeting after the District I Meeting that we co-hosted with No. 168. We planned to serve cookies at our local bank in May for Social Security Days. Ditch cleaning was set for April 29.
On Mondays at 6 p.m. our President, Cathy, hosts a radio talk show out of her home and she invited members to promote Western Fraternal Life on her program.
Join Hands Day was discussed. We planned to go to the Carc Center in T.R.F. to host a Bingo party on May 6.
District I scholarship winner Brady Kilen, No. 219, was chosen.

Dorothy Didrikson celebrated her 80th birthday (see Spotlight for photo).
We met at President Cathy Erickson’s home for an ethnic Bohemian meal on January 21. Members helped prepare the meal and enjoyed sampling different dishes.
On January 25, Cathy Erickson provided a program at Life Care Center.
On February 4, members played Bingo and furnished prizes at the nursing home in Greenbush. Donations were made to Greenbush Nursing Home for Bingo prizes.
Reminder that state scholarships are due by the District Meeting on April 9. It is in Karlstad, MN, and we are co-hosting with No. 168, Mahnomen, MN.
