Members sponsored a Western Fraternal Life booth at the Decatur County Fair August 1-5. A total of 225 entries were filled out for three ride ticket books and a bicycle. The bike winner was Bryson Shaw of Oberlin, KS.
On August 26, we held a 50/50 Fundraiser at the Jennings Fireman’s Fun Day. The winner, LeRoy Spresser of Dresden, KS, donated his winnings back to the lodge. The lodge then donated it to the Jennings Fire Department. A kolache sale grossed over $2,000. Fireman’s Fun Day had a myriad of children’s fun activities and a parade with traditional Czech costumes sponsored by the Jennings Czech Museum. Children call this the candy parade because of all the candy thrown into the crowd. Several local fire departments had a water competition, there was a hog roast, an auction of donated items, and a street dance.
Members held a pin presentation on July 23 at the Bohemian Hall in Oberlin, KS. Richard and Robert Pavlicek were honored in absentia for reaching their 75th year of membership in our lodge.
Everyone enjoyed a potluck meal followed by the business meeting. A report on the Father’s Day fundraiser dinner was read. Special speaker and author JoAnn Emerick presented a slideshow program about the attack on Pearl Harbor at the time her father was stationed there. Over 250 people attended the fundraiser.
Plans were made for the Western Fraternal Life booth at the Decatur County Fair the week of August 1-5.
