October 2018

Members met October 21 at Ord's Veterans Club.

A thank-you note was read from the family of Emanuel Sedlacek for the memorial.

Candy was purchased to help a local business provide for trick-or-treaters. Candy was also taken to Grandview Independent and Assisted Living Center residents, Valleyview Senior Village residents, and an area school.
Back-to-school bags were packed with school supplies to be delivered to students at an area school.

Non-perishable goods will be brought to the November meeting to be taken to the Ord Food Pantry.
Jerome and Garnett Walkowiak celebrated October birthdays and handed out treats.

September 2018

Members met September 9 at Ord Veterans Club. Our next meeting will be held December 9 at Ord Veterans Club.

A moment of silence was observed in memory of our departed brother, Emanuel Sedlacek. A card and memorial were sent to the family.

Due to conflicts, we decided to hold our October meeting on the 21st, the third Sunday in October.

We had 108 registrations at our bicycle/tricycle giveaway at North Loup Popcorn Days. The bicycle was won by Abby Hickenbottom of Ansley, NE and the tricycle was won by Collin Jensen of North Loup, NE.

Back to school bags were assembled and delivered to an area school after the October meeting. We purchased candy and helped an area business hand out trick-or-treat candy after the Halloween parade in Ord.

August 2018

Members met on July 1 at the Ords Veterans Club. We plan to promote Western in a local parade and pass out candy to the youth.

An invitation was read from No. 76 Milligan to attend the State Meeting on August 25.

The Board of Trustees audited the books after the meeting and found everything to be in order.

We had a meeting on August 5 at the Ord Veterans Club. Some members promoted Western in the Grover Cleveland Alexander Days parade in St. Paul on July 7.

Iron has been delivered to a local business for recycling.

Our bike giveaway was held at Popcorn Days in North Loup on August 25.

Diane, Justin, and Shari Spilinek celebrated birthdays at the August meeting and provided treats.

Our next meeting is November 11 at the Ord Veterans Club.

June 2018

Members met June 10 at Ord Veteran’s Club. We purchased school supplies and assembled back-to-school bags for an area school.

Members planned to promote Western in the Grover Cleveland Alexander Days parade on July 7 in St. Paul. We discussed if enough members were able to participate on the day of the parade.

Due to conflicts, members voted to move the July meeting to July 1, the first Sunday in July.

We had our bike giveaway during North Loup Popcorn Days on August 25. Youth registered throughout the afternoon with the prizes awarded at the end of the evening.

Simon Walkowiak celebrated a May birthday and Ernest Maly celebrated a June birthday; each handed out treats.
Next meeting will be October 14 at the Ord Veteran’s Club.

June 2018

Members met June 10 at Ord Veteran’s Club.

We will be promoting Western in a local celebration in the near future. Members were thanked for participating in another successful Join Hands Day.

School supplies will be purchased to assemble back-to-school bags that will be donated to students at an area school.

The July meeting was changed to July 1 due to member conflicts on the regular meeting date. Simon Walkowiak celebrated a May birthday and Ernest Maly celebrated a June birthday, treats were passed out to members in attendance.

Our next meeting will be held on September 9 at the Ord Veteran’s Club.

April 2018

Members met April 8 at Ord Veteran’s Club. The volunteer hour’s sheet was passed around. Correspondence from the Home Office was read.

An invitation to join Grandview Independent and Assisted Living Center for their volunteer appreciation supper on April 16 was extended.

Members were updated with the specifics on our Join Hands Day activity, which was held on May 1.

The May meeting was changed to the first Sunday in May due to Mother’s Day falling on the regular meeting day.
Items have been recycled since the March meeting.

The next meeting is July 9 at Ord Veteran’s Club.

March 2018

Members met March 11 at Ord Veteran’s Club. A moment of silence was observed for Wilma Maresh and a card and memorial was sent to the family.

Our next meeting is June 10 at Ord Veteran’s Club.

The volunteer hour’s sheet was passed around. Correspondence from the Home Office was read. A thank-you note was read from the family of Wilma Maresh.

Members reported that they had recycled newspapers.

An invitation was read to the District 6 Meeting that was hosted by Cech No. 152 in Farwell on March 25. Slavin No. 112 invited us to attend a community card party on April 22nd at National Hall.

Easter eggs were filled with candy for the children at Linda’s Daycare in Ord.

February 2018

Members met February 11 at Ord Veteran’s Club. A moment of silence was observed for Matilda Polak with card and memorial sent to the family. Valentines with candy were signed and delivered to Valleyview Living Center residents.

Projects and Join Hands Day were discussed. Members reported that they recycled newspapers. We did an Easter project for a local daycare at our March meeting.
Our next meeting is May 6 at Ord Veteran’s Club.

January 2018

Members met January 14 and March 11 at the Ord Veteran’s Club.

The volunteer sheet was passed around.

An election of officers was held with officers retaining their positions for 2018 as follows: President Ernest Maly, Vice President Eric Spilinek, Secretary/Treasurer Terry Spilinek, and Correspondent Diane Spilinek.

We will continue to meet at 11:30 on the second Sunday of the month at the Ord Vet’s Club.

Members reported that newspapers had been recycled. We will be collecting used prescription bottles and card fronts for the 2018 year.

Members did a Valentine’s Day project for residents at an area assisted living home.

The Board of Trustees audited the books after the meeting and everything was found to be in order.

December 2017

Members met December 10 at Ord Veteran’s Club. The volunteer hour’s sheet was passed around and correspondence from the Home Office was read. Officer elections were postponed until the next meeting. We will continue to have our meetings advertised for 11:30 a.m.

Members collected 40 lbs. of non-perishable food items for the Ord Food Pantry at the November meeting. Back to School bags were packed and are ready to distribute to the students at Ord St. Mary’s School. Christmas cards were signed for Matelyn Retirement Home residents in St. Paul.

November 2017

Members met on November 19. Donations were made to Heartland Youth Ranch, the Ord Senior Center, and the Ord Food Pantry. A get-well card was signed for a member.

We brought 42 lbs. of food to the meeting for the Ord Food Pantry. Used prescription bottles were brought and donated to a local veterinary clinic as well.

The points system was discussed and possible new activities for the 2018 year were brought up.

Several members helped a local business hand out candy to trick-or-treaters on Halloween. Garnett and Jerome Walkowiak celebrated October birthdays and Eric Spilinek celebrated a November birthday, each handed out treats to members.

Our next meeting will be February 11 at the Ord Veteran’s Club.

September 2017

Members met September 10. Fifty-year member Debra McDonald and her husband Bob were special guests in attendance. We congratulated Debra on her 50-year anniversary.

A moment of silence was held for Dolly Rogers. A card and memorial were sent to the family.

The volunteer hour’s sheet was passed around and correspondence from the Home Office was read. A birthday and a get-well card were signed for a member.

There were 131 youth registered for the bike/trike giveaway at North Loup Popcorn Days. The bike was won by Tanner Layher. The trike was won by Elly Horton.

Our next meeting will be held on December 10 at the Ord Veteran’s Club.

August 2017

Members met August 3. Terry, Diane, and Shari Spilinek and Wilma Maresh celebrated an August birthday, they handed out treats.

A moment of silence was held for our departed member Leonard Sedlacek. A card and memorial were sent to the family.

Members reported that items had been donated to Goodwill, newspapers had been recycled, and used prescription bottles were brought for the vet clinic.

We welcomed Jessica Gydesen into our organization.

No interest was expressed in attending the State Meeting.

School supplies have been purchased for a local school and the bicycle and tricycle have been purchased for our giveaway at Popcorn Days.

Our next meeting will be held on November 12 at the Ord Veteran’s Club.

July 2017

Members met on July 9 at Ord Veteran’s Club. Cards were passed around that we received from our anniversary dance.

We will be honoring our 50 and 75-year members at our September meeting. School supplies will be purchased and donated to an area school as well.

Five members participated in the Grover Cleveland Alexander Days Parade in St. Paul promoting Western. We passed out candy to many eager children along the parade route.

We did a bicycle/tricycle giveaway at North Loup Popcorn Days on August 26.

Our next meeting is October 15.

June 2017

Members met on June 25. A thank-you note was read from Lorri and Jasmine Maly for the monetary graduation gifts.

In July, members promoted Western at our area parade.

School supplies will be purchased and donated to an area school.

Ernest Maly played videos for Grandview Independent and Assisted Living Center residents on June 1. Fathers in attendance were wished a happy Father’s Day. Members prepared for the anniversary celebration after the meeting. A moderate crowd joined them for an afternoon of socializing and dancing to Larry Koncel.

Our next meeting is September 10 at the Ord Veteran’s Club, honoring our 50 and 75-year members.

May 2017

Members met on May 7 at Ord Veteran’s Club.

Simon Walkowiak celebrated a May birthday with treats.

On June 25, we met and danced to celebrate our anniversary.

Thank-you notes were read from Jim Vodehnal’s family and Larry Vilda’s family for the memorials. An invitation was read from No. 45 to attend the State Meeting in Omaha in September. Two members attended the No. 437 card party on April 9.

Members reported that donations were made to Goodwill and newspapers had been taken for recycling.

April 2017

Members met April 9 and filled Easter eggs for an area care facility. A moment of silence was held for James Vodehnal. A card and memorial was sent to the family.

Correspondence from the Home Office was read. Members who attended the District 6 Meeting gave a report. Six members were able to attend the volunteer appreciation supper at Grandview Independent and Assisted Living Center on March 23.

Our next meeting will be held on June 25 at the Ord Veteran’s Club. We’ll celebrate our 120th anniversary with a dance from 2 to 6 p.m. The public is invited to join.

March 2017

Members met on March 12. Youth present at the meeting filled Easter eggs for an area care facility.

Matilda Polak celebrated a March birthday. A moment of silence was observed for Marie Michalski. A card and memorial were sent to her family. We received a thank-you card for the memorial.

Plans continue to be made for the anniversary celebration. Dates will be confirmed and announced.

Members were invited to a volunteer appreciation supper at Grandview Independent and Assisted Living Center on March 23.

Thank you to all members who made it possible for us to receive the Level I Award.

January - February 2017

On January 8, we held the election of officers with results as follows: President Ernest Maly, Vice President Eric Spilinek, Secretary/Treasurer Terry Spilinek, and Correspondent Diane Spilinek. Jazmyne Marlin was elected to the board of trustees. Simon Walkowiak and Matilda Polak retained their board of trustee’s office.

In February, we did a Valentine’s Day project with an area daycare.

A moment of silence was held for Blanche Williams. A memorial and card was sent to the family.

Our 2017 meetings will be held at the North Loup Café at 11 a.m., followed by dinner and socializing. Members will collect prescription bottles and pop can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House throughout the year.
