November 2018

Members visited a pre-school in Swisher to read to the students for America Reads on October 26. We provided cookies for the children and wore Western t-shirts.

Members read to preschoolers on October 26 for America Reads.

On November 12, we met at the Pizza Ranch in Cedar Rapids. Donations were made to the Salvation Army and Disabled American Veterans. Members brought non-perishable food items for Thanksgiving baskets, elected delegates and alternates for the National Convention, nominated and elected 2019 officers, and donated two wreaths for the NCSML Christmas Wreath raffle.

Members had a Christmas gift exchange at the December 10 meeting.

October 2018

Members met October 8 at the Cedar Rapids Pizza Ranch. We brought macaroni and cheese to be delivered to a local church.

Nominations and election of officers will be held at our November meeting. Next month, members were asked to bring non-perishable food items for Thanksgiving food baskets.

September 2018

Members met at the Pizza Ranch in Cedar Rapids for their monthly meeting on September 10. We also invited inactive members to our meeting.

Donations were made to the American Heart Association.

Members brought health care kits to be donated to a local church. Card fronts, pictures, and calendars were donated to Tanager Place. Soup labels and box tops were given to College Community Schools. Pill bottles were recycled.

We will be volunteering at a Veteran’s Golf Outing, Colonial Manor Bingo party, and help make zelincky for a local church soup supper.

August 2018

Members met at the Pizza Ranch in Cedar Rapids for their monthly meeting on August 13. We honored 75-year members by presenting them with a No. 400 coffee cup and Czech Museum member pass.

Members brought school supply donations for Prairie Schools. A donation was made to St. Luke’s Child Protection Program as well.

Get-well cards were sent to two members who were ill.

A member helped bake kolache with her granddaughters who are members.

July 2018

Members met at the Pizza Ranch in Cedar Rapids for their monthly meeting. Member Programs Manager, Kelsey Logan, from the Home Office explained changes in the point system and answered our questions.

We served cake, ice cream, and punch at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Amana while wearing Western shirts.
A get-well card was sent to a member who was ill.

We honored our 50 and 75-year members on August 13 at the Pizza Ranch in Cedar Rapids.

June 2018

Members met at the Pizza Ranch in Cedar Rapids for their monthly meeting.

Our sympathies go out to Arlene Erusha and Richard Williams.

We donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Invitations will be sent to our 50 and 75-year members honoring them at our August meeting.

Members brought baby products and diapers to be donated to a local church. We served cake and ice cream at Colonial Manor Nursing Home for June birthdays. Pill bottles were delivered for recycling.

Thank-you notes were received from our graduates for the monetary donation, Helen Nassif Cancer Center, MS, and Girls on the Run.

May 2018

Members met at the Pizza Ranch in Cedar Rapids for a monthly meeting on May 14.

Donations were made to the American Cancer Society and Czech Museum membership. We brought tuna to be donated for a food bank at a local church. School supplies were also donated to the Czech School program.
Members volunteered to serve cake and ice cream at Colonial Manor Nursing Home’s birthday party in May.

April 2018

Members met at the Longbranch Convention Center for their monthly meeting prior to the Iowa State Meeting. Our lodge donated toothbrushes for the Iowa State Meeting community project and helped assemble the items. We also donated door prizes for the meeting.

A get-well card was sent to a member who had been hospitalized. Graduates received a monetary gift from our lodge.

We were very proud to receive the Shining Star Award.

Members brought pasta and pasta sauce to be donated for a food bank at a local church. We will also be donating two cases of food for Camp Courageous through the Fareway Food Store promotion.

We volunteered to serve cake and ice cream at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home birthday party in April.

March 2018

Members met March 12 at the Pizza Ranch. We welcomed a new member to the lodge, Gary Cain.

We sent good wishes in a get-well card to a member who was hospitalized. Non-perishable food items for Easter baskets were donated to be distributed by the Shueyville Methodist Church.

Members volunteered to serve at the March birthday party for Colonial Manor Nursing Home.

Toothbrushes will be collected and donated for the service project at the State Meeting.

In April, members are asked to bring pasta and pasta sauce for a donation to Way Point.

February 2018

Members met February 12 at the Pizza Ranch. We sent good wishes in a get-well card to a member who was hospitalized.

Cans of soup were donated to the J Street Apartment Food Pantry. Members volunteered to serve at the February birthday party for Colonial Manor Nursing Home. Non-perishable items for Easter baskets will be brought to the next meeting for the Shueyville United Methodist Church.

January 2018

Members met January 8 at the Pizza Ranch. Cards were sent to members who were in the hospital.

Cake mixes and frosting were donated to the J Street Apartment Food Pantry. A monetary donation was made to the MS Society.

Members volunteered to serve at the January birthday party at Colonial Manor Nursing Home.

We earned enough points to obtain the Shining Star Award and would like to thank our members for the hours they donated to make this possible.

This year we will be celebrating with five 50-year members and three 75-year members.

December 2017

Members met December 11. Our lodge currently has 115 points.

We donated two wreaths for the Czech Heritage Foundation Wreath Raffle, non-perishable food for Christmas baskets, and to Multiple Sclerosis.

Members served cake, ice cream, and punch to residents of Colonial Manor Nursing Home during the monthly birthday party on November 30.

Members with last names starting A-M were asked to bring cake mixes and frosting to the next meeting. We participated in a gift exchange following the meeting.

November 2017

Members met November 12 at the Pizza Ranch. In October, we brought macaroni and cheese to the food pantry at Shueyville Methodist Church. Members welcomed Honor Flight Vets from Washington DC on October 17 at the Cedar Rapids airport.

Members went to the Amana Colonial Manor on October 26 to serve cake and ice cream for the October birthday party to residents and guests. We also read and served juice to a kindergarten class on National Read to a Child Day at Prairie View School.

A group of adults and children handed out Western pencils and coloring books to trick-or-treaters on Halloween. Members cooked a meal and served food for one of our members and her husband.

In December, wreaths will be donated to the Old World Christmas Market for the Czech Heritage Foundation Wreath Raffle.

October 2017

Members attended a meeting on October 9 at the Pizza Ranch in Cedar Rapids, IA. A thank-you note was received from Tanager Place for our card front and calendar donation.

We held the election of officers for 2018. Our officers for next year are President Mary Ann Siems, Vice President Wayne Slezak, Treasurer Judy Slezak, and Secretary/Correspondent Linda Evers.

Members with last names starting N-Z brought macaroni and cheese for a food pantry with Western logos attached.

We volunteered at Colonial Manor Nursing in Amana on September 28 by serving cake, ice cream, and punch to residents. On October 17, we welcomed home Honor Flight veterans from Washington D.C. at the Cedar Rapids airport. On October 20, members read to children on National Read to a Child Day at Prairie schools. On October 31, members and youth handed out Western pencils for Halloween.

September 2017

Members had a meeting on September 11. Wes volunteered at an annual veteran’s golf outing on September 14 in Solon, IA.

In October, members will read to youth at a local daycare and hand out Western pencils and coloring books. We will also hand out pencils at a youth Halloween outing.

August 2017

Members met August 14. Millie Peshek was recognized as a 75-year member.

Donations were made for school items to College Community Schools. Members filled backpacks with supplies as well.

July 2017

A meeting was held on July 10. Our 50 and 75-year members (and guests) were invited to our August 14 meeting at the Pizza Ranch. Special guest was Julie Wiedner from the Czech School.

Donations were made to the American Heart Association.

June 2017

We had a meeting on June 12 and discussed honoring our 50 and 75-year members at our August 14 meeting. Individual invitations will be sent.

Members participated in the following: Kids Against Hunger project, Burr Oaks Family Day, and Swisher American Legion Post 671 Memorial Day Service.

We donated baby bath products and diapers to Waypoint via Shueyville Methodist Church with Western stickers.

May 2017

Members met May 8. A lodge activity was planned for May 21 at Bur Oaks.
Tuna was donated to J Street Apartments Pantry via Shueyville Methodist Church with Western stickers.

March 2017

Members met on March 20. Our lodge received a Level I Award.

We will make a monetary donation to Kids Against Hunger sponsored by No. 423.

Ten members attended the IA State Meeting as delegates and donated prizes.

Members met on April 10. Donations were made to the Helen Nassif Cancer Center. Pasta and pasta sauce was donated to Shueyville United Methodist Church for Waypoint.

February 2017

Members met at 11:30 a.m. on February 13 at Pizza Ranch in Cedar Rapids.

We received requests for donations from various charities and a newsletter from the Parkinson Research Foundation.

A card was sent to a member who was hospitalized.

Six members donated soup to the J. Street Apartment Food Pantry via Shueyville United Methodist Church. Western stickers were put on the bags.

For March, we will put nonperishable items in an Easter Basket.

We decided not to participate in the Bowl for Kids Sake event, but will be donating suckers for the IA Fraternal Alliance project.

January 2017

Members met on January 9 at the Pizza Ranch in Cedar Rapids.
We discussed participating in the Iowa Fraternal Alliance Project.
Members donated cake mixes and frosting to the J Street Apartment Food Pantry. In February, we will be donating canned soup with meat.
The audit committee was selected to audit the books in February.

Members met on December 12 at the Pizza Ranch in Cedar Rapids. We discussed guidelines for monthly in-kind donations to start in the New Year.

Our 2017 officers were installed and we discussed our 2017 meeting schedule.

A donation will be made to MS in January of 2017.

Following our business meeting, members enjoyed a Christmas party with a gift exchange.

Members met on October 10 at the Pizza Ranch in Cedar Rapids.

Congratulations to Ethan Paulsen and Maisie Paulsen who each won 1st place in the Youth Photo Contest, Scenic and Human Interest categories.

Our food donation was delivered to Olivet Mission. Other members donated magazines to their local community center.

Members volunteered at the Disabled Vets Golf Outing the week of September 10.

We continue to invite inactive members to meetings as an ongoing building the lodge project.

Members met on August 8 at the Pizza Ranch in Cedar Rapids. A thank-you note was received from Unity Point Health for our donation to the Community Cancer Center.

Members brought school supplies to donate to College Community Schools. We will be bringing non-perishable food donations to our next meeting as well. A monetary donation was made to the St. Luke’s Child Protection Center.

Several members volunteered at the Johnson County Fair helping conduct a mock election, which also included youth.

Members met on July 11 at the Pizza Ranch in Cedar Rapids. Blakey Abel is our new juvenile member; welcome!
Thank-you notes were received from high school graduates for their monetary gift from us.

Members made a donation to the American Cancer Society.

We will honor our 50 and 75-year members at our September meeting.

Several members are volunteering at a local nursing home by helping residents play Bingo, and serving ice cream and cake at their monthly birthday parties. We also helped make bibs for newborns at a church. Other members help with the American Heart Association Little Hats, Big Hearts project by knitting red hats for hospital babies.

Member Viola Zahradnik reported that she worked 120 volunteer hours at the senior center in Sun City, AZ.

Members met on April 11 at the Pizza Ranch in Cedar Rapids. We have two new members, Barbara Postl and Heidi Murray.

Our lodge co-hosted the 2016 IA State Meeting with No. 13 on April 10 in Cedar Rapids.

The audit committee completed the required audit of the financial records. The sick committee reported we had several members who had been hospitalized.

Our lodge donated two cases of canned food for Camp Courageous during the Fareway-sponsored drive. We also made a donation for Legos for the IA Fraternal Alliance care bag project.

We will have four members volunteering to help with the Kids Against Hunger project on May 14. We also made a monetary donation supporting this project.

Members will participate on May 7 with our Join Hands Day project helping with the Girls on the Run spring 2016-5K race at College Community Schools. Additionally, we will have three members volunteering to help member Tammy Wright with her Members in Action project at Bur Oak Family Days on May 22.

We have six graduating members. Congratulations!
