June 2018

Members toured the new Ikea Warehouse complex and enjoyed a unique shopping experience after the lodge meeting in May. Meetings were held May 19 and June 8. There was a meet and greet luncheon with District 6 Director Bonita Fillmore on June 8 at Bruno’s European Restaurant.

In July, members will be touring a historic Frank Lloyd Wright house. Our next meeting is August 11 at McGrath’s Fish House in Federal Way, WA.

Fifty-seven pounds of groceries were collected for the Volunteers of America Everett Food Bank to help reduce the summertime food shortage. We are sponsoring a clothing drive to provide new underwear and socks for students in Thurston county. We are also sponsoring a school supply collection for the Northshore School District Backpacks for Kids Campaign.

We made a monetary donation to Northshore Performing Arts Center Foundation Youth Enrichment Program. They bring live performing art shows to local elementary schools.

May 2018

Members enjoyed an April outing to the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum to celebrate an artist of Czech/Slovak ancestry. We watched a glass bowl-making demonstration and joined in the release of lady bugs in the Seattle Center gardens.

Members helped with a local community Easter egg hunt by filling eggs with candy, toys, and also donating supplies.
We volunteered at the Northshore Performing Arts Center (Bothell) shows during the 2017-2018 season. We encourage participation in the upcoming season - especially for the Christmas shows. We continue to handcraft notes and greeting cards as a fundraiser for the Northshore Theatre Guild. Those interested in paper crafting are invited to join.
The Czech-Slovak Genealogy Interest Group will meet on September 22 and November 3 in Kirkland, WA. If interested, please contact Marjorie Bianco at 425-483-4296 or email

Congratulations to Brian Bianco for completing a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington. He has landed a new job at Boeing. Brian was also honored at a pre-graduation ceremony for military veterans, receiving a challenge coin and graduation stole.

Bonita Fillmore, District 6 Director, will be joining us for our June meeting at Bruno’s European Restaurant in Lakewood, WA.

July 2017

Members and friends gathered at the Bahama Breeze Restaurant in Tukwila, WA on July 15 for a luncheon. A meeting was held via teleconference with our officers earlier that day.

We provided over $300 worth of school supplies to the Northshore School District’s Backpacks for Kids Campaign. We collected new socks and underwear for the Little Red Schoolhouse, totaling 112 items. Volunteers unboxed and organized a pallet of donated school supplies at Lacey’s Komachin Middle School in preparation for the back-to-school supply distribution event. We continue to volunteer as ushers and concession staff with Bothell’s Northshore Performing Arts Center.

Our next meeting is October 14 at Bruno’s European Restaurant in Lakewood, WA at 11 a.m.

We had an outing to Feierabend German Pub in downtown Seattle for a meeting with young adult participation on May 21.

We recognize Garrett Reichle’s graduation from MI State with a Master of Science in Epidemiology. Our sympathies to the family of Robert Lussier (past president) and Al Ehli.

A donation was made to Northshore Performing Arts Center Foundation to cover printing and mailing of our Producer’s Party Fundraiser event. A memorial donation was made in memory of Al Ehli to Visitation Stem Academy.

Marjorie Bianco and Robert Vernon shared their recent travel adventures to Prague, Vienna, and Budapest.

February 2017

Members served as volunteer ushers and concession workers at the Northshore Performing Arts Center. We continue to handcraft greeting and note cards to help the Northshore Theatre Guild (NTG) fundraising events as well.

The February Czech Slovak Interest Group (CSIG) meeting featured a show-and-tell presentation on Czech Pottery, including many items by Mrazek. The April 1 meeting focused on genealogy and DNA testing.

Our sympathies go to the family of Al Ehli. A donation was made to Visitation STEM Academy in memory of Al.
Our next meetings are May 21 at 11:30 a.m. at the Feierabend German Pub in Seattle and June 3 at 9:30 a.m. at Fire Station 22 in Kirkland.

Members received a thank-you letter, certificate of appreciation, and commemorative coin from Toys for Tots as a thanks for our participation in the annual Christmas toy collection.
