October 2018

In July, ten delegates from the Czech Republic came to Two Rivers to present the city with a plaque honoring Lt. Col. Matt Konop from our area. Matt Konop was born in Stangelville, WI, but lived most his adult life in Two Rivers. He is the main character in the play, The Accidental Hero, who unites the Two Rivers area with the city of Domažlice in the Czech Republic.

Seven members participated in the Two Rivers celebration which included an ice cream social, Czech singing, and ticket-taking for the play on July 1. Two Rivers became a sister city with Domažlice in the Czech Republic last year, and the event is “to encourage a greater understanding of and appreciation for the history that binds our two communities together,” Two Rivers City Manager Greg Buckley stated.
