Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family of James David (Dave) Butler, who passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 in Iowa City after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Dave was in the insurance business for over 30 years. He was awarded Agency Manager of the Year for 11 of his 19 years with Western. While Dave was manager, his agency brought in over $2.4 million in life premium, and over $28.3 million in annuity premium.
Dave was a classic gentleman, thoughtful, generous, and caring, with a great sense of humor. He was always careful to show his appreciation for things that were well done. His agents will always remember him for being a great mentor and coach. He believed in doing things right, and was positive and uplifting to others. A great sportsman, he loved the Cubs, Bears, and the Hawkeyes, and enjoyed golfing and swimming.
He was a graduate of Regina High School and University of Iowa where he was an Iowa Letterman Football player in '74 and '75. He was involved with Make-A-Wish Foundation, past Board member of Iowa City Life Underwriters, past Board of Director for Iowa Lettermen’s Varsity Club, Member of ISU Cyclone Club, and Inductee of Regina Athletic Hall of Fame.
He married Carol Russell on April 22, 1977. They have three children, Brent (Erin) Butler, Zach (Karen) Butler, and Whitney Amoroso (Dominic) all of Urbandale; three grandchildren, Eric Amoroso, Patrick and Emmy Butler, and two more on the way!
David loved spending time with his family and friends. Those of us who were lucky enough to know him count ourselves blessed, and will greatly miss him.
